Making a MODEL of an INSECT

Insects are the largest group of animals in the world. Their bodies are divided into three parts: head, thorax and abdomen. They have antennae and wings. And they have 6 legs.

Children in Year 3 learned about these invertebrates creatures that belong to the group of ARTHROPODS. Insects are the most abundant group of arthropods. They learned about their body parts by creating their own GIANT INSECT.

They made models of a great variety of insects: BUTTERFLIES, FLIES, MOSQUITOES, BEETLES, ANTS, ETC. MODELS were absolutely BRILLIANT.

Treasure hunt is fun!

This week children in our school have been taking part in a treasure hunt which has been prepared by our language assistant Lorraine. The children had fun exploring different places in the school while looking for clues. They were excited to finish the game and get their prizes. Thank you Lorraine. We had fun and we will miss you a lot.

EUROPE DAY IN OUR SCHOOL

Europe Day is a day to celebrate peace and unity throughout Europe. It is held on 9th May every year. We did some activities about it and most of the groups participated: coloring of EU countries flags, making a mural with information about Europe, watching videos to know more about our continent, the EU and the main countries, etc. It was good to remember this special day at school. Now we know a bit more about Europe!

Con motivo de la celebración de la Semana de la Ciencia y de la Mujer en la Ciencia el profesorado de PRIMER CICLO ha preparado una serie de experimentos y talleres en las clases de 1º y 2º que han resultado muy interesantes y a los niños y niñas les han encantado.

STORYTELLING WITH KAMISHIBAI

Hemos hecho un cuentacuentos en inglés para primer ciclo de primaria utilizando un kamishibai, que es una especie de teatrillo de madera de origen japonés para contar historias. Hemos adaptado un cuento que nos trajeron los Reyes Magos de regalo: Camilla, the foreign iguana. Lo acompañamos con fotos, dibujos y música para hacerlo más dinámico y atractivo. También utilizamos imágenes previas para introducir el vocabulario, para que fuera más fácil de seguir.

Una bonita historia que también nos enseña valores tan importantes como el compañerismo y el trabajo en equipo. A los chicos y chicas de 1º y 2º les ha gustado bastante. Seguiremos creando historias para contar.

¡A COLORFUL RAINBOW!

La densidad es una propiedad específica de la materia. Sabemos que algunos líquidos tienen densidades y pesos diferentes y por esto no se mezclan y unos flotan sobre otros.

Vamos a hacer un experimento para comprobar las diferentes densidades de  algunos líquidos y cómo podemos formar un bonito arcoíris. También explicamos por qué flotan algunos objetos en agua y otros no.

¿Qué observamos? En este experimento podemos observar que se ha formado un arcoíris de colores con distintos líquidos. Los ingredientes que hemos añadido en la botella no se mezclan, ni se integran unos con otros. Esto se debe a que cada uno de ellos, tiene una densidad diferente, ya que están formados por elementos diferentes.

EXPLICACIÓN: Los líquidos más densos pesan más, y por tanto se quedan en el fondo, y los más ligeros se mantienen en la parte superior. Además, al tener diferente densidad, los líquidos no se mezclan y de esta forma se crea este bonito arcoíris.
